Ringo StarrRingo Starr is sick of being called an ex-Beatle External links open in a new window. I hate to say it, but if the other three Beatles didn't choose Ringo to replace Pete Best, there's a great possibilty we never would have even heard of Ringo Starr. "Solo artist" or otherwise. I'm just saying that most musicians would be extremely proud to have once been a Beatle, even if it was the only thing they were known for.

Pete BestPete Best was ousted from The Beatles in 1962 and replaced by Ringo Starr – and never spoke to his band mates again. Here's what he says about the possibility of a meeting with the other surviving former Beatles: “The door’s always open for a meeting, although to be realistic it would have to be on Paul’s volition. But we’re not starry-eyed youngsters anymore, it would be nice to meet just for posterity. There were some great moments in Liverpool when we were kids.” Read more External links open in a new window

A Toot and a Snore in '74A Toot and a Snore in '74
In March of 1974, John and Paul played together in a jam session held in a recording studio. This was the only time that they did so after the break-up of the Beatles. During the session McCartney plays drums and sings harmony, and Lennon is on guitar and lead vocal. Also present are Harry Nilsson, Stevie Wonder, Jesse Ed Davis, Bobby Keys, May Pang and producer Ed Freeman. The bootleg recording is not the best or most organized jam session you're likely to ever hear (there's hardly any complete songs to speak of) but it's interesting for historical reasons.

From this blog External links open in a new window you can download the bootleg (all nearly 30 minutes worth). Here's Wikipedia's entry External links open in a new window about the impromptu jam session.

Last known photograph of John Lennon and Paul McCartney together 1974Related to the above, here is the "last known" photograph of John Lennon and Paul McCartney together. The photo was part of the late Who drummer Keith Moon's collection. It was taken in 1974, four years after the Beatles split up, at the recording of US singer Harry Nillson's album Pussycats. Here's a 2000 article on the auctioning of the photo. External links open in a new window Click the picture on the right to see the larger version >

Late-night TV musicians Will Lee (from David Letterman) and Vivino (Conan O'Brien) are also members of the brilliant Beatles five-piece cover band, the Fab Faux. Several months ago I saw (and heard) them perform "I Am The Walrus" on the Letterman show and it was excellent! They are a "sound-alike" band, not a look-alike one.
